WPS Compliance Checker

9 yes/no questions, 60 seconds. Get your UAE Wage Protection System (WPS) compliance score, the violations on your record, and what they could cost you each month.

Answer all 9 questions

Used to calculate fine exposure if any rules fail.

1

Is the company licensed on UAE mainland (DED / ADDED / SEDD / RAK DED)?

WPS is mandatory for mainland employers. Most free zones impose their own equivalent (e.g., DMCC, JAFZA). If you're unsure, choose Yes if your trade licence is from a mainland economic department.

2

Do you currently employ at least 1 person on a MOHRE work permit?

3

Is your company registered on the Wage Protection System (WPS) portal?

Registration happens through your MOHRE account. Without it, salaries paid via bank transfer are not WPS-tracked, even if the bank is a CBUAE-approved channel.

4

Are salaries paid through a CBUAE-approved bank or financial institution?

Cash payments, personal Wise transfers, or unregistered exchange houses are NOT WPS-compliant. Use your business bank, an approved exchange house, or a fintech registered with the Central Bank of UAE.

5

Are salaries paid within 15 days of the contractual due date every month?

For domestic workers, the limit is 10 working days under Federal Decree-Law 9/2022. For all other private-sector employees, the threshold is 15 days. Day 16 = official violation.

6

Does the salary actually paid match the basic + allowances stated in the MOHRE-registered contract?

Underpayment relative to the registered contract is a separate violation from late payment. Pay-stubs that don't match the contract are a common audit finding.

7

Do you keep monthly payroll records (pay-stubs, transfer receipts) for at least 2 years?

MOHRE inspectors may request the last 2 years of records during a workplace visit. Missing records = presumption of violation.

8

Have you ever reduced an employee's salary without filing a contract amendment with MOHRE first?

Salary changes require a registered amendment to the employment contract. Paying a reduced amount before the amendment is filed counts as underpayment.

9

Are you aware that under Federal Decree-Law 9/2024 (effective 31 Aug 2024) labour-law violation fines now range AED 100,000 – AED 1,000,000 per violation?

This is awareness-only — not part of the score. The new fine schedule applies to certain serious violations (e.g., fictitious employment, work-permit fraud) on top of the standard WPS per-employee fines.

This checker is a directional self-assessment. Specific compliance situations should be confirmed with MOHRE or a licensed UAE labour-law advisor. Federal Decree-Law 9/2024 amended fine bands; serious violations can compound up to AED 10 million.
